Mechanical Engineer – R&D

Design the mechanical parts of our drone motors and propulsion units, from the first sketch to the drawing the shop floor builds from.

About the role

You will join the R&D team that designs our X6 and X8 class units and the 2806, 4006 and 4215 motors. Your work covers everything that holds a motor together: rotor bells, bases, mounts and prop adapters, ESC housings, and the fixtures our own line uses for winding, magnet insertion and testing.

Rotor and structural parts are made by investment casting or CNC turning, so you will design for those processes and see your drawings turn into real parts.

What you will do

  • Model parts and assemblies in SolidWorks and release 2D drawings with tolerances and GD&T.
  • Design for investment casting and CNC turning, and check first-article parts against your drawings.
  • Run static, thermal and vibration studies in SolidWorks Simulation before parts are made.
  • Design winding, assembly and test fixtures for our production line.
  • Build and test prototypes with the electrical and firmware engineers.
  • Adapt motor mounts to the frames of drone companies we co-develop with.
  • Keep BOMs, drawing revisions and design and development reports up to date.

What you bring

Must have

  • Diploma (DME) or BE / BTech in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Automobile or Production Engineering.
  • 0 to 4 years of experience. Freshers with strong project work are welcome.
  • Working skill in SolidWorks part, assembly and drawing modes.
  • Can read and make engineering drawings, with a working knowledge of tolerances and GD&T.

Good to have

  • SolidWorks Simulation or another FEA tool.
  • Hands-on work with motors, drones, RC models or machining.
  • Knowledge of aluminium alloys, casting and CNC processes.

Where this role leads

Each step comes with more ownership. You move up by what you take on and deliver, not by time served.

  1. Mechanical EngineerDesign parts and fixtures under guidance and own them through first articles.
  2. Senior EngineerOwn complete sub-assemblies and review the work of junior engineers.
  3. Lead EngineerLead the mechanical design of a motor family from concept to production.
  4. R&D ManagerPlan the product roadmap and run the design team.
